||166||: Release with Writing


Hello fellow readers and writers, have you ever felt like if you didn’t write something down, you’d burst?

it doesn’t have to be poetic or grammatically correct at this point, just need to release this climatic high lingering in the body

That is how I’m feeling, bright eyed and awake at 12:57 am, with a Himalayan Salt lamp warmly lighting the room, a book folded open on my chest and typing this on my phone, hoping to calm my anxious state.

My hubby has been deployed for 6 months, a total of 189 days and I’m still floating with bliss and vibrating with excitement. It feels like I’ve climbed a tree, the highest perch and i don’t know how to climb down.

Another way to describe this feeling is when one is nervous that their throat feels tight, that even hot peppermint tea is short of a healing balm.

I haven’t written consistently here in several months, so I’ve made a few edits on my (About Blogger) Tab, feel free to check it out.

Where am I now? I am physically in O’ahu and spiritually choosing what feels good. I welcome all the juicy goodness life has to offers, hugs, slow mornings, new budding relationships, saying no to make space for my FK YES, and being soft with myself.

The part about writing that I tend to overthink is forcing the content to sound profound, when really my thoughts are my thoughts, they don’t need to be liked or understood, I simply need to do and let the doing be enough (MY OWN REMINDER).

My best guess is, the doing of writing for personal growth will manifest with consistency and the choice to LET IT BE.

Heres a reminder to do it messy, do it in the struggle without fully knowing, do it daily and return to see your results season by season, or even 6 months.

||165||: Trip to O‘ahu – What To Pack For Hawai‘i?

This is a post for family, friends, and whoever is traveling to O‘ahu and not sure what to pack in their suitcase. This list is for the low key traveler, so if you’re more of the daring adventuring type, keep in mind, this is a light list.

I currently live in the southern part of O’ahu called Waipahu, Hawai‘i, north of Pearl Harbor. Most likely you’ll fly into Honolulu Airport and if you’re traveling to visit me, you’ll be greeted with Floral Lei’s.

As you begin to take out your suitcase and start packing, ask:

  • How many suitcases do I need?
  • Am I bringing carry on luggage only or am I checking in a bag?
  • Check airlines to learn more about luggage fees – What are the fees for carry on and checked luggage?
  • Be sure all your luggage is labeled and the information is updated with clear print.

Sun Protection is priority:

  • Hat for Sun Protection – Options: Baseball cap, Wide Brim Sun Hat, Straw Hat, Open Visor.
  • UV Ray Protection Sunglasses
  • Sun Screen – Apply before sun exposure, every 2 hours. Health professions suggest 15-50 SPF is sufficient.
  • Travel Size First Aid – *Be sure to carry your med’s and vitamins.
  • Reusable Canteen/Bottle for water on the go – Hydration refills.

Clothing Daily Wardrobe:

  • Tech Shirt’s – They’re quick dry and moisture wick shirts, that can be found in the workout section at Walmart, Target, Old Navy, thrifting, etc.
  • Clothing with UV Protection
  • Linen & Cotton Clothing – Emphasis on breathable fabrics
  • Water Shoes – Especially if you’re considering water sports and spending everyday on the beach. They can provide protection from coral reef, lava rocks, and crossing streams while hiking.
  • Plan for a beach day: Beach towels, swimming goggles, etc. Consider purchasing beach toys at a local thrift or Walmart. Many folks donate items before returning home. This may apply to folks with children if they are need of folding canvas chairs, etc.
  • Various Swimsuits/Trunks
  • Hiking Sandals – They provide more support and traction when walking dirt paths with slippery steps and loose gravel.
  • Comfortable Trainers/Hiking Boots – for hikes and sight seeing
  • *Respect* for the people, culture, and the island leave it clean and undisturbed better than how you left it.

Everyday Carry #EDCforTravel

  • Bag for Daily travel – Options: Fanny Pack, Small Shoulder Bag, Light Bag pack, if you’re a regular hiker – bag with water reservoir.
  • Tote Bags – Eco friendly reminder – Most stores have you pay $0.15-$.50 for a reusable bag.
  • Wallet & COVID-19 Vaccine Card
  • Travel Size Hand Sanitizer
  • Travel Size Sunscreen
  • Lip Balm with UV Protection
  • Portable Phone Charger – These come in handy especially if you’re out all day using google maps and taking photos.
  • Bring an Extra USB Cord – Helpful to have one for the home and one for travel, stored in the vehicle.
  • Reusable Water Bottle for hydration refills (as mentioned above)^
  • Extra: Hair Ties, Cooling Towel (Search TargetCool Wipes/Sporting Goods – no link provided).

||164||: Reset – Rewrite Your Story.

I’m taking a break here, some time to refocus on what is the point of this blog?

I feel this blog needs a refresher and to reflect my current life. In my past story, I was the character that was starting and stoping, lacking direction.

Online it’s so easy to show the happy reels but how often do we admit that, what we are doing hasn’t given us the results we want? I’m taking about the unfiltered realness before the breakthrough.

Lately I’ve been in need of energy and thanks to listening to a Live Video from Tony Robbins, I Believe I will get there.

I only want to take part in things that bring me joy, and I feel sort of boxed in with this blog.

I’ve made so many changes during this new season of my life. I am grateful that I am far from home and our new home is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It’s time to wake up and be present, and be vulnerable. I admit that depression and this low energy funk is real, however it’s not where I want to remain.

I am alive, so I get to rewrite my story and restructure my beliefs and define WHAT truly matters and my WHY am I here!??

These thoughts come to me and so if you’re reading this, I encourage you to write about it and then create a new story.

I can change the narrative, I am the author and I choose to dream big from this moment on.

||163||: One Hour a Day – 1/24

It’s morning where I am, 4:40 am HST. I woke up randomly, thinking about life and the series of choices I’ve made within the year. I recently haven’t had any flow of writing, what do I do or write next?

I’ll go on a drive, to rest beside still water, and will find the words then. For now, I’ll share this reminder here, for all.

Fresh air, autumn leaves,

Morning dew, crisp air, among tall trees,

Scents of pine, rain, and soil.

Extend gratitude,

Genuine smiles, tight warm hugs,

Good news, hope, and love.

This recent decision to write Haiku’s has helped me get out of the pressure to write long essay formats or even try to write a poem and feel like I failed somehow. I encourage you if you’re feeling blocked, try a Haiku. If you’re feeling blah, step outside for fresh air, or sit in a quiet place for meditation/prayer.

During this season, it seems for the past few years it’s been rough, and so this post, it was my intention to cheer myself up, because words have power and so do our physical environments. I hope that even for a moment, pausing to reflect on what we’re grateful for, just one thing, keeps us going.


||158||: Todays ℞ is Pleasure ∙ Haiku xii

𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚜 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚙𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚞𝚛𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚞𝚕𝚐𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝚝𝚘𝚍𝚊𝚢?

I wanted to prescribe some pleasure for you. This is a gentle reminder, to settle down, take a break and release, in the form of a haiku. Everyday in December, I’ll share a total of 31 poems. Today is about allowing yourself to enjoy simple pleasures.

Fruits are a daily pleasure:

Succulent citrus,

Ripe, drizzling down my full lips,

sweet, delicious drip.

This weekend I need:

Full, bodied, big gulps

Of berry, cherry, sweet tobacco,

Makes a mellow gal.
